Allison Helmuth speaks on panel at Tech2Action
Allison Helmuth was invited by the Tech2Action charter, an organization of Chicago tech industry employees working on civic engagement topics, to speak on a panel about technology and political engagement. Allison shared insights from her research on the role that technology has played in the exclusion of black residents of a gentrifying neighborhood in Washington, DC. She also shared sociological insights about the concepts of intersectionality and color-blind racism, and how understanding these concepts can help us engage in more effective and compassionate conversations about racial justice with our family members and peers. More information about the panel, entitled "Human After All: How to Have Compassionate Political Conversations Online," can be found here.
