Anna Colaner wins Child Care Scholars Award
Child Care Scholars Award
Anna Colaner has won the prestigious and highly competitive Child Care Scholars Award from the Administration for Children and Families in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The goal of the Child Care Research Scholars is to support dissertation research on child care policy issues in partnership with State Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) lead agencies.
As universal preschool debates gain national attention, surprisingly little research examines effects of expanding State programs on existing preschool programs and markets. This dissertation uses sociological market theory and employs mixed methods to investigate the impact of Preschool for All on the supply of preschool and the way providers approach the delivery of preschool in areas of varying family income, racial/ethnic, and linguistic background. This project will inform researchers and policymakers about the success of Illinois' universal preschool program and of the State’s efforts in coordinating various care and education systems to meet Illinois families' diverse needs. It will also inform sociological theorists about the prospects of market settlement under conditions of heterogeneity.
