Luna White, PhD student, received the 2018 National Science Foundation's (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship. The fellowship is a highly competitive award which provides three years of financial support for graduate study. Luna describes their research project as the following:
What, beyond awareness, is necessary to mobilize whites in racial justice movements? My research builds on the existing literature on white anti-racist activism by quantitatively testing the three tenets identified in the literature and by re-theorizing the fourth tenet to better consider the role of culture, knowledge, and morality play in mobilizing whites for racial justice. I ask: how does anti-racism in the symbolic world relate to anti-racism in the material world?
