MaryAnn Vega (mav) they/them is a Sociology PhD student at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Prior to their time at UIC, mav spent 3 years earning dual master’s in Sociology and Women & Studies, earning an MA and MAIS simultaneously in 2018 from George Mason University. During that time, mav won a social justice activist award and two dean’s challenge awards. MaryAnn is a DEIB consultant for nonprofits using their interest and studies in disability, sexuality, intersectionality, and gender to help cultivate organizational change. Their research interests include ableism, queerness, gender, intersectional, black, and indigenous feminisms, sexual violence, and community-based participatory research. These days mav is specifically interested in how disabled queers of color understand social change and challenging inequality as an essential part of their identities.
