Jessie (she/him) is a Sociology PhD student at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Prior to this, Jessie was a social worker in the homelessness arena for several years in both Minneapolis and Chicago. Jessie is extremely passionate about teaching and is aiming to become a Professor at a community college. As a first-generation student herself, Jessie is also passionate about access to higher education and feels that community colleges are the most accessible form of higher education. Jessie is also a Flagship Scholar with the Point Foundation, the oldest and most prestigious LGBTQ scholarship program in the country. He was given this honor due to his bi+ activism and focus on bi+ health research. A co-written book chapter on how monosexism and biphobia contribute to high rates of intimate partner violence in the bi+ community will be out this September in a new anthology titled Queer Victimology: Understanding the Victim Experience.Besides this, Jessie's research interests primarily rest in the realm of race/ethnicity with Jessie hoping to focus on how whiteness and Asianness are co-constructed for his dissertation.
